Failed the Dose Calculation test, now out of the program
I failed the dose calculation test, I feel I have a math issue.. and have been tested for math anxiety, I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue??
I have the same issue and fears. I practice math exams ad nauseum — probably more than my classmates. All I can say is to get a good little math dosage book and work it.
I agree with Patrice – get a good math book and start practicing. If you can, sign on with a tutor. Take online quizzes that are time-based to help you. But you need to know how to do these dosages. Dosage miscalculations are a big error made by nurses. It’s OK if you have to have a cheat sheet once you’re in practice and have someone else check your work (which is recommended, actually). But you need to know how to do the equations.
You have to look at it from their point of view too. They don’t want nurses that can’t pass meds safely. Take your time, read the question carefully, and ask yourself if the answer makes sense! “Kee” is a very good book for medication review. Here is the isbn # 978-1-4160-4740-7. Hope it helps! Best of luck to you, you can do it! Remember to keep it safe!
I know exactly how you feel. Math is not really my strong suit. I failed the program as well because I panicked and switched a conversion. Try to deep breath, think happy thoughts and don’t think about the pressure.
