What Are Employers Looking For?

I'm currently in an Associate Degree of Nursing Program. I will graduate in May. I'd like to work on a Medical-Surgical floor at a hospital. I'd like to have a better idea of what employers are looking for in a new graduate nurse to help prepare me for the interview. Can you help me out?

    Keely,

I believe that employers are looking for new talent, a willingness to learn, and flexibility. New nurses, especially on a med-surg floor, are in great demand since there is high turn over in this area of nursing. Med-surg lays the foundation,in terms of skills, and is vital the first year or so, before one decides if they will go on to specialize in an area of nursing or stay in med-surg. When you interview, I believe recruiters are looking for team players, flexibility, an openess to learn as well as your special talent either from past jobs or things you learned while on clinical rotation. If you highlight these attributes, I believe you will have great sucess! Good luck on your interview!
