I am graduating in May and wanted to know if anybody has any tips for passing the NCLEX. I am so nervous about taking the exam. Any experience with this process would be appreciated. Thx-
study… start now and do questions 100/day. if you can take a class like kaplan to get you prepped for the test.
when i took my test, it took me 3x to pass! but in my defense when i graduated from asn program… they gave me nothing but a nclex question book. no nclex prep class nothing! i was on my own! fortunately, my APN helped me out SO much! i took kaplan and stat nursing class. after i took Kaplan i passed the boards with 76 questions. what i remembered for the WHOLE test was – If I could do ONE thing for my patient and that ONE thing would keep my patient safe and I could go home after that one thing then thats the answer i chose.
the first two times i got all 265 questions. it was very frustrating but kaplan helped alot! i did 100questions a day and reviewed the questions i kept missing.
Good Luck!
I too took the Kaplan review class and thought it was great! The textbook is awesome with a lot of helpful information, including several audio clips. I studied that book for 2 solid months and answered at least 50-75 questions a day for those months. I passed the first time, with 75 questions. Good luck, you can do it!
Study, take your time, and like Amanda said to remember that you are one nurse, with one pt, in one shift. I took the boards 3 times and after the second time of failing I took Kaplan which helped alot. It’s scary but take your time, think through each answer, and eliminate the distractors. Good luck
Do as many practice questions as possible! Dont worry about taking the Kaplan class, just do the online version (much cheaper) and use their q-bank. I passed first time in 75 questions. Good luck!
I just passed my NCLEX as an ADN on the first try with 75 questions. Our school prepared us well. Take your time on the test. It was nothing like the 1500+ practice questions I reviewed! Get together with nursing school friends. Each of you buy a different study book, review, and trade. Read the questions carefully. Choose the BEST answer. Don’t get frustrated. Wear ear plugs. Don’t let the test center people intimidate you, ‘cuz you’ll already be nervous. PRAY! Have fun! 🙂 It’s relieving when it’s over – you won’t know what to do with all your spare time, since you won’t have to study anymore! HA HA! 🙂
I took a Kaplan course, actually our school requires the Kaplan course as part of our curriculum, and the school has like a 97% pass rate. The online Kaplan q-bank was really helpful to me, I used all the questions. Like Amanda said just try to imagine that you can only do one thing and then go home. Really remember your Airway Breathing Circulation thing, nothing matters if your patient doesn’t have an airway. Definitely take your time and don’t get frustrated, the test is scored really weird. My teacher told me that they find the level where you’re consistently getting 50% correct and if thats above their level of competency then you pass. You won’t know all the questions but thats ok!! It took me like 180 questions but I passed the first time, so don’t worry if it doesn’t shut off at 76 questions. You’ll do great!
