NCLEX and a Misdemeanor?

Hello,
I am a nursing student in Indiana and I wanted to know if I can sit for nclex w/ this misdemeanor on my hands. My mom had called the police and said I threatend her and I had no clue about it and they picked me up on a warrant. They charged me with a class A intimidation misdemeanor. My mom gave me to the state of Indiana when I was 11 so since I turned 18 we have had many battles(not physical). She has done numerous things, lied to have my kids taken and put me in jail because my kids are biracial and does anything she can to hurt me.This has hurt me not being able to find employment.I have been hired for homehealth and then turned down because of this. Will this affect me if I pursue nursing?

It depends on your state board of professions. You have to be completely honest when filling out the paperwork for licensure and they will investigate it and let you know. The decision ultimately is made by them. Good Luck!!!!

COntact the state Board of Nursing in Indiana and ask them. Many states are requiring criminal background checks for licensure applications. In some cases, if you can provide proper documentation that indicates that you were never convicted or appear before the Board, sometimes you can be licensed even with a criminal record – but only the Board of Nursing can make that decision.

By the way, sounds like you need to get far away from MOM. And a little counseling wouldn’t hurt either?

as i have said before … to any one looking for licensure…… get a good lawyer.. felony or misdomeanore charrges a conviction is a conviction.a withold of adjudication.always enables you tht second chance……………..you are not a felon if ou are with held.and yes counceling is the best ay.i was married to a jerk who pulled a fast one on me as well…..keep on striving for your goal.it;s well worth it

I would check with your state board of nursing and ask some questions prior to starting a nursing education. I had similar problems when I obtained my license. You must be very honest about your past and I even explained how I had changed since my situation and I was able to obtain my license.

If you really love nursing then I say Go for it!!! Nursing is my passion and I am very happy where I am working. Also if you come forward with employers during the interview process I have found they are much more understanding than when they find our after the fact.
