Where Are New Grad Opps?

I'm a new grad looking for work in South Jersey - anywhere between Woodbury and Mount Laurel. I went to school at WVU. Anyhow I have not been able to land a job anywhere because every hospital wants 1-2 years exper. My question is how do I get the experience in the first place?? I'm looking for a job on a med surg floor - then would like to move to the ICU down the line... HELP!!

Thanks Val/

You are on the right track. It is great to realize that you need 1 -2 years medsurg prior to ICU. I currently am an ICU nurse and when we hire new grads I feel their pain for the struggle they must bear. Canada has more jobs then you can imagine and will hire new grads in most clinical areas. It is just a thought if you have interest to relocate for a year. You also receive a $5000.00 relocation fee with the guarantee you stay for a year. My dtrs best friend is from Jersey. She came to Winnipeg for University and now has returned to get married and settle here. If you can take the cold winters, life is not so bad. Good luck.

This is not true for Texas. Many people in my class (we just graduated in April) got jobs in ICU’s all over the state. Many more of us got jobs in the NICU. Texas is a great place to get a job. There are a few hospitals that are on small hiring freezes, but overall, from what i’ve read on here, Texas isn’t hurting nearly as bad as up there by yall. Plus, we don’t really have a winter. haha. just hot, hotter, and less hot. Many big cities. Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Houston… and all are hiring (except Austin, they are somewhat of a hiring freeze for ICU/NICU/L&D/Pedi)

Texas is definitely hiring. Austin does seem to be in a hiring freeze as I could’nt even get a call about a med surg floor or well…anything. fortunately for me, I was actively seeking a job in texas as it’s my favorite place ever (have lived all my life in ohio) and it turns out that they hire on more new grads.

yes this is true. I’m in orientation right now and there are 225 new employees, which they said about 80% are new grads. And we are going into all fields. Nicu, OR, pedi, ER, med surg, etc…
