RN-BSN

How do I know which colleges and universities are accredited and approved by my state's board of nursing? I have an Associate's Degree and wish to start working on my BSN. I know not all programs are recognized by the BON and want to make sure I choose one wisely!

    Lindsey,

I have always thought a program should be CCNE (commission on collegiate nursing education) accredited.
I am going through the Kent State University RN-BSN online program. It is CCNE accredited.
There are different opinions on accreditation. But the two major accreditations are NLN and CCNE. You can research at:

    Good luck to you.

I agree with Nicole. Check with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (ncsbn.org), or the CCNE, or even the AACN (American Association of Colleges of Nursing). If you are interested in a school, call up the Dept. of Nursing and just ask. How they are accredited and who does it. ADN’s are tricky, especially if your associates is from a program like DeVry, Apollo, etc. While these programs do conform to state standards, they often aren’t accredited, which means when/if you go after that BSN, your credits from that un-accredited facility won’t transfer…at all.
