I plead guilty to a misdemeaner charge of obstruction of justice in Georgia 11 months ago. I have one month left on probation and all fines and community service requirements have been met. Will this misdemeaner crime keep me out of nursing school in Georgia this fall? I have been accepted into the nursing program, so they are asking me to get a criminal background check. I requested the first offender act and the judge approved it so the charge is going to be seen when the criminal history is run, but it will show it as dropped or dismissed. I was also charged with misdemeaner carrying a concealed weapon, (I had a pocket knife in my front pocket). That charge was merged into the obstruction charge. I am worried that my record will keep me out of nursing school. Does anyone have any suggestions or maybe any "good" news so I can stop worring? Also I met with a Psychologist who wrote me a letter stating that I have worked on my anger issues and in her professional opinion I will not act out in anger in the future. In reference to the charge, I did not touch anyone, I never became physical or violent, I was arguing with a police officer on the side of the road, refused to sign a ticket and when he arrested me he stated that I became rigid and would not listen to his commands. At no point did I touch the officer. I just kept running my mouth and arguing with him. When he searched me he found my pocket knife that I carry everyday. I was told if it had been in the car on the seat I would not have been charged for carring it at all. The only reason I was charged was due to it being in my pocket. (I was a Scout Master and I always carry it. The whole always be prepared concept).

John,
No it should not interfere with your nursing school. Only felony convictions, drug or alcohol offenses and any to do with disorderly conduct against patients, elderly or minors. Good luck,
