Hello!
It's march and i realize that many nursing programs here in Oregon wont be taking applications for quite some time. I recently applied to a clinical psychology program but was denied, i began to rethink my academic pursuits.
I was researching nursing positions and learned about Psychiatric nurse practitioners. I already have a bachelors degree in psychology so i was hoping i could avoid the lengthy path to becoming a RN then a nurse practitioner. Unfortunately in these trying times, these courses are overburdened with applicants and i'm not sure how strongly i stand from a competitive standpoint. Should i utilize my bachelors degree and attempt to get into the shorter program? or would it be safer to apply to a full nursing program from the start?
Thanks everyone!
James

With your background, I would go directly into an NP (msn direct entry) program. Psychiatric NP is vastly different from being a staff psychiatric RN. Don’t waste your time or your money. Best wishes in your endeavors. Future Psych NP too.
