CRNA?

Does anyone know how to get in to a cardiac ICU as a new nurse? What should I do?

If you are still in school, I would suggest applying for a support position in the unit, such as a unit secretary or an aide (if they have aides in the unit – many don’t). That way you will have a foot in the door and the department director will know that you have a solid work ethic. Good luck!

a CRNA is a nurse anesthetist my aunt is one. and if you want to get into ICU find a teaching hospital that offers a transition or critical care prgram. That’s how i got into the icu setting i just graduated last decmeber and i work in a trauma ICU. My hospital has a fantastic training program and mnay hospitals do. So don’t let anyone tell you that you have to work med surg first! it’s not true!!!

Yes, I know what a CRNA is. I need at least one year in the ICU setting to even apply to any of the programs. So thanks for the info…

Thanks aquintRN for your comment! I am trying to get into the CT ICU at my hospital but they only take 1 graduate nurse in the summer (when I graduate)!
