I am interested in flight nursing in the DC Metro area. Some people that I've talked to said that I would have to become a police officer in order to do critical care transport for the State Police Medevac. My question is two-fold:
1) Is that true?
2) If so, are there other opportunities for local flight nursing (i.e. critical care transport)?

I dont know about the police officer question. However, I know to be a flight nurse for U of M’s survival flight, you need to:
1)Be an RN
2)Work a year in the ER
3)Work a year in adult ICU
4)Work a year in peds ICU
5)Be a certified parametic (EMT)
6)Have on the job flight training
There is a lot of training that goes into being a flight nurse but its an awesome career!
