LVN Jobs

I've been hearing that most hospitals don't really hire LVNs as much as before and it's now RN or BSN that they hire. Most LVNs now get hired in convalescent homes or care homes. Is this true? Do LVNs still have a promising job at hospitals?

It depends on where you work. In my area (Indiana), a lot of the hospitals are phasing out LPNs/LVNs, or have already done so. I know of 1 hospital that offered all of its current LPNs the opportunity to sign up for LPN-RN classes within the next 2 years, and those who didn’t were let go. I have also heard that several schools are cutting the numbers in their LPN programs, or completely eliminating them, because the demand is so great for RNs.

However, there are still hospitals that I know are hiring LPNs, as wells as medical practices. Don’t give up hope! If you are getting your LPN degree, my advice is to finish up, then go back to school for an LPN-RN program once you are done (within 1-2 years after graduating). You can usually get hired somewhere and then have them pay for your tuition. And many of these programs are online, on weekends, or during the evening. It would increase your salary by nearly double, as well as giving you more options. Hope this helps!
