RealityRN Community, we want to know what jobs--outside of the hospital setting--you want more information about. Travel nursing? Public health nursing? School nursing? Legal consultant nursing? Others?

I would love to know more about travel nursing:
-How long do u stay at a particular location?
-Are u able to choose the unit/hospital?
-What are the benefits?
-Typical pay?
-Typical lifestyle of a travel nurse?
-Number of years of experience before being considered for this position?
-Reputable companies (since there are SO many out there!)?
Any other info would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to know about research nursing.
I just finished up one of my pre-req courses this summer, English Comp II, and to my surprise, I did such a great job on my research papers, my teacher said it was more graduate level work (I’m currently attending a local community college, going for an Associates Degree RN). It’s been suggested to me that if I like doing research, and can write this well, I may want to look into research work.
What kind of research work is there for nurses, and would it require bedside/hospital experience beforehand, can I do it at the same time, or is experience necessary first, then work into a research position?
Also, I was curious if I could possibly work my way through nursing school doing research for local doctor offices or hospitals? Do they hire people to do that kind of thing?
Thanks!

I would love to see more information on Community Nursing (ie. visiting nursing). I find this very interesting, but have found that there is not much information (as far as roles, suppports, etc.)

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT NURSE INTERN OR EXTERNSHIPS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO FIND OUT IF THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR NURSES TO WORK IN ENVIRONMENTS LIKE “DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS” OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. I’D LIKE TO KNOW IF THESE ORGANIZATIONS TRAIN NEW GRADS OR IF YOU MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE. I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO LEARN AND GIVE SOMETHING BACK AT THE SAME TIME.

I’ve been trying to find more information about holistic nursing, how’s it’s incorporated into the nursing environment, are there organizations that support it. It’s very difficult to find info regarding this.

I would love to find out more about how to find that first nursing job! Most hospitals have alot of openings for RNs but require experience. The nearest hospital with a new graduate externship program is over 1 1/2 hours away!
