Can a school do this?

Ok we have medication adminstration tests at the beginning of every semester. They have now made a rule that if you dont get 100% by the third time you fail the nursing class regaurdless of the grade you have. Why is this done? I took 3 test today all at once I took the math first so I could take my time and then after I was done with the other 2 I wanted to go back and recheck it. Well teacher called time, I did a quick glance at all 3 test to make sure I didnt miss anything and sure enough I skipped a whole page!!!! I freaked I hurried and did the problems and they were correct but I forgot to round to the tenth. Failed the test. Has anyone else gone through this? I know how to do med calculations, I can do them in my sleep and my teachers know this. I have one more chance for the math test (1st time I took it I wasnt prepared because I wasnt aware of the test). I am so scared im going to make a mistake and forget to round or something and ill get kicked out of the class! I have a 3.875 gpa and I have 13 more weeks to go then I am done. To have gotten so far and to possibly be held back because of this! I am freaking out, which will not help me when I take the next test.

I know meds are important, believe me! when I am in clinicals i check like 6 times before i do anything.I keep telling myself I am going to pass, I know I can because I know the stuff, but I keep asking myself What if????

Just take a deep breath, do what you know you can and try not to worry so much. I’m kinda unclear though on why you had so many tests at one time? That’s a little odd. But the main thing is, you have to relax and just do it. I know, easier said than done, but if you don’t you’re going to psyche yourself out. Like you said, you can do this in your sleep!:)

I am a new nurse and it was just last year where I was dealing with the same stress. Just make sure you practice. Our med exams were the exact same way. Three chances and that’s it. When I did nursing orientation for my new job, I had to do a med exam…and I was like AHH its not over yet? But really its never over because you have to “pass” everytime you give a med so you don’t hurt your patient! When I took my test, it helped me to take each question and pretend I was seriously about to go give that medication to a patient so it made it feel more real and sometimes made it more clear on what I needed to do. You got this, you can do it!!! Leave the “what ifs” behind. You got it!! Good luck!!

My school has a rule like this for a lot of different things including tests and skills. I think it’s a fairly common practice. We still have a very high completion rate, indicating that most of the students don’t fail over this. Some things are just VERY important. It sounds scary when you first hear it but I’m sure you’ll be fine. If you really work your hardest and don’t know it well enough to pass, it isn’t a good nursing school and you should switch.
