Is there a job at the Hospital that I can do now that would help me with my schooling and schedule. I currently work as an Admin./Office Manager for 4 years for an appraisal company and my schedule is set so working my way around school is difficult, I need to work full time - as I own a home and have all the joys of paying bills with that. Prior work experience has been in Customer Service and Banking and Retail all in the course of 10+ years.

The hospital where I do clinicals has a position called “nurse tech.” It is the same as a CNA but it’s reserved for current nursing school students who have passed fundamentals. They basically do the same work as a tech — AM care, vitals, beds, etc. — but when the nurses know you’re a student, you are allowed to do other work that you’ve been checked off on, in our case that would be stuff like hanging piggybacks, foleys, maybe suctioning, etc.
Hour requirements are 24 hours per month — easy for a student to maintain. Call the hospitals in your area and ask the recruiter what positions are available for current nursing students, as well as any training opportunities/scholarships. One hospital had a program where they’d train graduate nurses to work in the OR right out of school.

Does anyone know of a nurse tech position in Holland/Grand Rapids, MI area for this summer and/or for this upcoming year?

I would recommend being a patient care tech, an emergency room tech, or an emt on an ambulance. You learn so much and it helps tie things together while in school. Hands on is the best experience. I was an emt, then I became An er tech, then I got my license. It’s great!!
