Conflict with Managment

My sister is now a manager of my department and now i have to report to a director instead of a manager whom I do not get along with well. I also feel, with my sister being my departments manager, if I will never have the opportunity to move up the clinical ladder.

(Conflict with Management) This is exactly why there are rules against family members working in the same department, when one is in a supervisory position over the other: it is always perceived as unfair, & in this case, it obviously IS unfair.

Julie – Why is it unfair?
And what exactly are the “rules”?

I’ve worked as an RN while my wife was Tech. My last post had a manager who’s wife was an RN in the same unit. I’ve even seen ex-partners manage thgeir ex’s. It’s no big deal if you’re an adult.
I can understand changing reporting to the director to avoid any complaints of potential nepotism and if you don’t get on with that director well that’s unlucky – but it might just as well have been a different manager you didn’t get along with then how would you be any better off?

This shouldn’t stop you from climbing the ladder. Your unit hasn’t found a problem with you working under your sister as they seem comfortable with the idea and have put something in place to make it practical and avoid potential conflict.

Are you perhaps just a bit envious your sister has been promoted?

There is a policy in my hospital that states that family members cannot work together. The policy kept me from working in certain units because my aunt and mother work in the same hospital

  4. Mr Ian Says:

That would be discrimination as it is presuming a problem without substantiation.
