HELP!!! Has anyone been in my position???
When I filled out my online application for RN NCLEX at school, I checked no to all eligibilty questions. I didn't think anything of it, I have been an LVN for 6 years and will be graduating from the RN program in 3 weeks!
Anyways, I got a letter stating I had to submit a paper application along with a letter as to why I put no when it should have been yes. 13 yrs ago I was caught shoplifting (STUPID MISTAKE!) at a dept store. I got deferred adjudification and did probabtion. I always thought it was off my record. I have had many criminal background checks, fingerprints, etc for LVN school, renewing my license and to get into the RN program and nothing has ever came up.
It was an honest mistake when I put no. So, tomorrow I am getting my court documents from court and will mail them off. I hope to hear from them soon.... So anxious and upset about this whole thing.......

two things. First, there is a statuate of limitations; of which a misdeamner is one. Second, you can find what is on your criminal background check by going to local sherrifs office, and doing a FBI (felony), and state check.
You are not “forever” under the gun of a mistake you made. Reporting factors will OF ITSELF can and will put it on your record. Why give them ammunition to shoot you w.
Understand. If you have done a crime againest children, elderly etc, financial etc you are DEFINATELY in the wrong field…and Can and SHOULD be stopped…irrespective of anything.
You DO however, have certain rights; and being denied employment for the Rest of your Life is neither fair, nor just.
so, make the decision for yourself. Are you a person that YOU would want as a nurse?

p. s. probation fulfilled IS off the record (misdeamener. Your best bet is to go to the state by which you DID the probation and request a criminal record check. The same thing happened to me…and guess what? NO RECORD! that was because I had fulfilled the obligation.
So, you can either, send a copy of the completed probation (“no record”) or decide what you want to do. The first thing you NEED to do is Find out exactly WHAT is on your record…If its a felony forget it. But, you have a right to find out your history; than get legal counsel and/or talk to the board. Good Luck!
