My daughter took the fundamentals of nursing you need a 77 she got 76.35 she re-took it got same grade. She appealled the grade to no avail . She was dismissed from the program and appealled again was denied. She just found out that the professor who taught the classs in on probation and she allowed the studnets this term to take the test with an open book. We asked the department to make an exception and allow my daughter to retake final and be readmitted to nursing program. They said no ! Any advice !

Don’t give up! Go to the school’s onsbudsman. Really read your student handbook in and out. Look at the school’s policy towards dealing with failures. You will have more leeway if your schoolis connected to university or community college.

I would look into a new school. Nursing schools these days are really into their nclex passing rate and students who can not pass classes are probably not going to pass ncelx. I know it sounds harsh, but your situation sounds like every nursing school in the country. It is the hardest thing you will ever do, and you will fight to the end to get the degree. I was on the edge of failing out every semester and I was a great student until nursing school. It doesn’t mean that your not smart, it just means you have not yet figured out how to take the nursing school tests. I would look for another school and know that when you get into the school, and you will, that the same possibility exists. what city and state are you in?

Wow! I’ve never understood why bubbling in a scantron or point and clicking a button on a PC was more important to Nursing Faculty than whether or not a student, I don’t know, knows how to start an IV, put down an NG tube, change a dressing for Pete’s sakes.
Tests are very overrated and have no bearing on the nursing profession about how a nursing student will perform as a nurse in the real world. However, people who test well sure make their NCLEX scores look good! Which is a primary requisite for their accreditation, unfortunately.
Just not right, but I would look into a different school. My school’s minimum acceptable passing grade was 75 when I was there and she made that twice! She’d probably be a nurse by now. Just unreal the difference between some programs and the stand offish nature of how programs respond to failure. But, it’s the nature of the beast I’m afraid.
Don’t give up!
