Hi,
I was looking for feedback on the idea of a new grad taking a position as a home health nurse. I recently interviewed for a position but I am concerned that my lack of experience will put be at a disadvantage. The managing agency likes new grads because they can train them to their expectations and they "dont have any bad habits ". Mostly I am concerned that I may lack diagnostic and critical thinking skills and would not know what to do if something went wrong.
The worst case scenario immediately came to mind during the interview- " what do I do if the patient codes?" Thinking there is no team to call - no crash cart- but the d.o.n. said without missing a beat-" you start CPR and call 911" . Seems straightforward enough but I know I am bound to come upon something I have never seen or heard before and wonder how do they train or prepare you for that. I will be asking these questions of the agency but it is so helpful to get input from my peers based on personal experience. Also does anyone know what the going rate of pay is for these types of jobs?
Thanks- I hope to hear from you soon.
Michelle
