I have been a nurse just over 3 years, all of that spent doing ED/Trauma. Over time I have felt that while I can do this job pretty well, my heart is not in it. I am beginning to feel the infamous burnout that is so common in nursing especially in critical care.
I am becoming increasingly interested in pursuing a career in outpatient rehab/cardiac rehab/sports medicine/physical medicine. I am crazy about fitness and training and ideally would love to work in a fitness nursing capacity. I am having such a hard time finding opportunities. I have found a lot of information regarding fitness nursing but no jobs! Any tips on where to look or how to search more effectively?

I graduated two years ago and moved straight into hospice after seeing many things in hospitals and nursing homes I didn’t agree with. I love hospice so much I just got nationally certified. It’s great that you realize your heart’s not in ED/trauma before committing to specialty certification. I’m also a massage therapist (have been for 14 years). Some other nurses and health care workers suggested I look at rehab nursing, with the MT background, that sounds like something you may be interested in checking out. Unfortunately I can’t really tell you how to get involved with it or where the jobs are because I never pursued it.
