A question to my more experienced nursing colleagues:
I am a new grad nurse, and I on my fifth week of preceptorship in the ER. I have more experience than most of the people in my class (I had been a CNA, EMT, combat medic 7 years before nursing school), so I do feel more comfortable with my skills.
I have 2 questions:
(1) Sometimes I'm not sure I know where to draw the line between what I actually know and when to ask for help. How can I feel comfortable asking for help.
(2) I feel buried beneath all the paperwork. Will all the paperwork ever seem less insurmountable?
I guess I have another question. Are there any ER nurses out there who can give me suggestions of how to be more organized with my "paper brain", or do you use these with your 30 patients every night?

Hi! First I’d like to say thank-you for you’re service.
Knowing when to ask for help is felt when you personally have to ask yourself “is this right?” Always get confirmation when in doubt. You will be considered a very safe and knowledgeable nurse.
Organization comes from prioritization. Keep a check list next to your assignment till you can do it in your sleep. You will do great. You are great! Nursing is lucky to have you. So our your patients. :-).
