The Best Nursing shoes?

I just started working 12 hour shifts as a nurse tech and my feet are KILLING me. What are the best/most comfortable shoes and any advice about achy feet?

Thanks!

Jo Ellen

I’ve been wearing white closed-toe Crocs and my feet have never hurt me. And I just throw them in the washer after my shift to get rid of any germs they have picked up, which they are tough enough to take. I did just purchase a pair of MBT shoes for the fitness benefits, but have yet to try them at work. I plan on bringing my Crocs with me just in case my MBT’s don’t keep my feet from hurting.

I am all about crocs too. That is all I wear and my feet never hurt me anymore!!

I am not a nurse, but my wife stands all day, and walks everywhere. Crocs are by far the best for anyone in a profession where they stand all day and the shoes have a potential to get dirty.

You can just throw the Crocs in the dishwasher or sink, and they are clean. They are extremely comfortable, and hold no odor. Best shoes out there by far.

Guess who bought some crocs today? I always HATED the original ones because they are huge and felt uncomfortable on my feet, but today at the mall I found cute Mary-Jane style crocs that are still totally comfy for work. for $30 I am happy with them. Thanks for the Crocs advice!

My favorites are a pair of non-nursing clogs – super comfy and for whatever reason the little bit of heel in the clog keeps my calves from hurting (my calves hurt if I wear flat shoes such as tennis shoes). If your calves hurt, or the crocs don’t work out try wearing a shoe with just a little incline to it.

I love my Danskos, which now also come in narrow widths if your feet are not wide.

I also wear compression socks, which help your legs and feet from swelling if you are on your feet for a long time.

Your mileage may vary, so find a favorite shoe…and buy at least two pairs so you can rotate them.

i wear comfort clogs. ten bucks on allheart.com site…they are amazing and comfy!!! they are like clogs but without holes on top!

I love my Danskos! At first they feel really firm on your feet but once you break them in they are great! I forgot them a few weeks ago and only had my tennis shoes. What a difference – my feet hurt so badly by the end of my shift!

Compression socks and crocks or New Balance tennis shoes, best pair I have found.

i vote for the Danskos, but be forewarned, the extra incline is not always a good thing. My calves haven’t been getting as stretched as they would be with a flatter shoe and started pulling too tightly on the other muscles creating some heel and foot troubles. But alternating them with tennis shoes on days off and stretching properly has helped the problem a lot. Definately will buy another pair (This pair has lasted me over 2 years.)

Dansko’s are my favorite shoe. I have flat feet and the crocs did not help my arch. I also suffer from achillies tendonitis due to the flip flop motion when wearing clogs. Dansko’s require breaking in but my feet never feel tired and my tendons don’t ache anymore. They are more expensive than crocs but it’s worth every penny.

Veggies! From Veggiesfootwear.com. They are crocks with insoles in them. Wonderful mix between crock and tennis shoes. They come in many dif colors to =)

Ok, really dumb question here but I love my new crocs. . .except that I tend to trip on them sometimes (ALWAYS when talking toward a group of doctors or a patient’s family, of course) because my feet (in socks over support hose) slip around. When I wear the crocs without socks away from work this never happens.. .but I have to wear socks. Any advice? Some sort of insert or special sticky socks lol?
