Can you remember your last good moment at work? A time or incident when something truly amazing happened? I find it too easy to remember the bad things that happen, while I often struggle to remember the good things that happen in the hospital environment. But the good does outweigh the bad, otherwise I wouldn’t still be a nurse.

Yes I remember it It was yesterday. I was walking down the hall and found a little old woman standing outside her room and she asked if I would come in and find her navy blue pants for her in her closet as to her they all looked black. After I found them she opened her arms and gave me a big hug. Now that put a little jump in my step for the rest of the shift.

A few weeks ago, it was an extremely bad day. I was put on call, but then got called in 10 minutes after I would have left. It took me over twice as long to drive there so I ended up backed up by 30 minutes the whole time I was there. I experienced my first code, and I did not get dinner.
A lady needed to use the bathroom so I went to help her. She told me no one else had taken so much care to help her, and in a happy manner. She said I was the best aid she had her entire stay. She gave me lots of hugs and kisses and was just a joy to be around. It just reminded me why I’m in this profession.

A few months ago I was working with my assigned patient (I’m a nursing student)…anyway…I had time so I went and helped the poor old lady sitting on a commode waiting to get up and brush her teeth next to her…she was so happy and thankful and told me that I was going to be a great nurse…and if that didn’t make my day…one of the nurses on that shift turned and said to me “Are you going to take credit for this?”…and said that he should tell my instructor! I didn’t even care whether or not he told my instructor…I knew that the “Big Guy Upstairs” already knew…and that it made that lady’s day… that’s all that mattered.

hehe yeah ive had a few patients tell me that Im going to be a great nurse, while I was doing my RN training, and it was really nice, almost wanted to cry lol. its just a great feeling when they tell you how much they appreciate your help when they cant do things for themselves. Even when it happens with cranky teens who are just naturally frustrated from their lack of independence
