I am a 4th-year BSN student , and part of our OB clinical experience was to follow an OB/GYN last week. It was a horrible experience.
First, I was put in a room with 3rd-year med students, which was great because I introduced myself and got to chat with them about their program.
Then I waited over an hour for someone to acknowledge me. (I was escorted [...]

We've shared our most embarrassing moments in nursing. We've shared our funniest nursing stories. Now it's time we turn the tables on the docs.
Though usually professional, respectful, and brilliant, even our highly esteemed doctors occasionally misstep. It's only fair we take a little time to share their stories. Here's my favorite.
One Tuesday morning this summer, a patient came into the clinic [...]

In the gazillion years I've been a nurse, I'm happy to report that I've learned a lot. Some from nursing school. Some from other nurses. Some from study. Some from patients.
And hard as it may be for you to hear, lots has been from my docs.
I call them "my docs" because I've spent most of my career in a family practice [...]
Seasoned with Sage
By Male Nurse Magazine's Jerry Lucas, RN, Guest Blogger, 5/15/08
From my observations, men below the age of 25 are reluctant to enter the field of nursing. The trend remains that more men between the ages 25 and 30, who have been working in other fields, are filling the ranks.
Unfortunately, male nurses entering the field have to deal with the press' portrayal of them - that all male nurses want is a "free show." But, [...]

Once upon a time—straight out of college—I suffered from Doctoritis. I blame it partly on my youth. But the rest of the blame lay with Dr. Steele.
You see, I was an impressionable young man and Dr. Steele had it all: he was 29, handsome, worked out at the gym and had the muscles to prove it. He also had every woman in the hospital in [...]

My friend's dad had a triple bypass after a heart attack over the weekend.
I saw through her eyes how overwhelming, traumatic and surreal a health crisis can be. I've also seen how said crisis can be transformed by a caring medical staff.
My friend's world revolves around taking care of her family, working on her degree, church and school involvement, and writing. Never [...]

In the OR things can get hairy—real fast. And in those moments of peril, doctors seem to be the most disrespectful of nurses.
I’ve had doctors yell at me for not having what they needed in the room. They bawl, “Hey, nurse, why isn’t such-and-such instrument/med ready? Why isn’t it here? I need it now!”
In those moments, I cover my name badge and say, “Do you [...]

As a new nurse, you find out quickly the doctors who are approachable and willing to offer you suggestions and those whom you should try and avoid.
Eight weeks into my nursing job, I had a run-in with one of the “unapproachables.” He actually caused me to break into hives.
It happened when I had to call an orthopedic surgeon for a consult. He wanted to know [...]

Recently, a doctor who left our staff for another job rejoined us. We were told that he left the other job because someone filed sexual harassment suit against him.
At first, I thought it was just rumor. I knew he was a “close talker” and “close toucher,” but I didn’t think that meant he was a harasser.
As time went on, though, I began to question his [...]

My brother-in-law is not a fan of RealityRN. I'd feel bad about that if he were a plumber or banker or especially a nurse. Instead, his dislike helps me know we're right on track. He's a doctor.
He doesn't like the cartoons. He doesn't see the humor. He doesn't like the comments about doctors making mistakes or being mean to nurses. I guess he thinks we're [...]
